After my children received camping gear for Christmas, they became a little bit obsessed with camping, which was the perfect excuse to throw my Amelia a camping themed party for her seventh birthday. All the glory goes to Christen on this one – I was so busy the weeks leading up to the party that I had no time to plan. I had to go to the store the morning of the party to buy flour for the cake. I didn’t have flour. But Christen is the kind of friend you can text and say “help! I haven’t done anything for the party!” and she shows up with decorations and says “it’s all going to be okay.” I love her so.
This was really the perfect low-key birthday party, because the kids just happily ran around with flashlights and lanterns and playing in tents – we were so blessed with a warm January day flanked by 20-degree days!
For a snack, I asked my popcorn-expert friend Kristin (seriously, she makes the best popcorn!) to help me put together a popcorn bar – we had coconut, goji berries, chocolate chips, dried cranberries, sunflower seeds, and spices. The kids had fun making their own popcorn snacks in little paper sacks.
I also had my kids’ favorite party food – fresh berries and whipped cream in little cups.
Oh yeah, and birthday cake! With flour!
We set up our tent in the front yard, and the kids ate their cake inside.
And of course we had s’mores and a camp fire!
And that, Campers, is how you throw an adorable low-key birthday party, with a little help from your friends!
