So, you know how to try everything in your power to avoid having a character themed party for your child? And then that’s absolutely ALL THEY WANT. And won’t settle for anything adorable that you could find non-tacky crafts and decorations for on Pinterest. No? Me either. Except that my Max absolutely had to have another superhero birthday party this year. And he was turning four…and he’s really cute. So I finally gave in. Last year’s party was a serious superhero party, and I was not up for that again. This year was much smaller, and I’ve been on a “I can make everything myself” kick lately, so I did.
I wanted to prove that you indeed can have a cute superhero little boy birthday party… First up, choose your colors. I chose mint and red, because they aren’t your typical superhero colors. But they totally worked! I found some scrapbook paper in my stash in these colors and cut a bunch of triangles and then sewed them together.
Now, I like to do ridiculous things. Just once. Just to get it out of my system. And because I scheduled this party on a Friday…for the following Sunday, and well, you can’t order a cake that quickly. So I decided to make a really tall cake. No reason. Just wanted to. It was red velvet and vanilla alternating layers on the inside. And I forgot to get a pic, but it was very superhero-looking. Trust me.
Pro decorating tip…send your kids to go dig through their toys to find very specific superheroes. You can use them on the party table and it keeps your kid busy and out of your hair while making the tall cake.
I love these honeycomb balls I got from Target! They were my favorite and only like $2.50 each. I have since used them for 3 other parties until someone finally sat on them. I would have probably hung them in my room if they were still alive. That’s how much I love them.
Gather up your jars and your pretty straws, because why not.
In the spirit of making everything, I decided to make these adorable tissue paper tassels. So much easier than I expected and there’s a million tutorials on Pinterest.
Also, print out a cute cake topper and tape it to a stick. Boom, you’re done.
Now, I do recommend actually buying birthday candles for your kid. But I forget this every. single. year. True story. So we had one. He’ll never know. And isn’t he cute?
I think I may have liked this way more than the kids, but I painted a quick cityscape on some paper and taped it on the wall above a couch. Thanks to Oh Happy Day for the inspiration! The kids put on capes and jumped around and pretended to fly. It was a hit!
And there you have it! A cute little simple superhero party that anyone can do!
